How much does this service cost?
Cost: There currently is no plan to charge for the basic use of the website. Some of our sources may require you to create a separate account on their systems to read the complete articles, and some sources may also require a payment from you to read their articles. Most of the sources we include on our website do not charge a fee for reading their articles.

What is a Primary source?
Primary sources: Newswires, news services, national/regional/local newspapers, magazines, and websites which generate original content fall into this category.

What is a Blog source?

Blog sources: A blog is a personal or business newsletter on the web. Blogs are typically published on a daily basis, but many publish irregularly, sometimes many times per day, others only once a month. The content of the blog varies by the individual publishing it. It could be someone's personal journal, political or editorial commentary, poetry, pictures, links to useful web sites, an ongoing story, tech tips, or virtually anything!

We include many blogs which we have found to be consistently published with interesting and worthwhile content. Blogs aren't for everyone and we recognize that. For this reason, only registered users can choose to include blogs in their custom profiles.

How do I search the collections?

Searching: Searching can be performed from the search box found in left-most column of our home page. You must be logged in to search across our collections, although individual collections can be searched from the "see all >>" pages without logging in or registering.

You can focus your searching by selecting "All Collections", or just those collections that you have selected for your personal profile, or just those collections below the currently highlighted collection tab.

Standard searching: We check to make sure all the terms exist, but not necessarily in the same order or next to each other. (e.g. MICROSOFT PATCH).

Phrase searching: To find terms that are next to each other, and in the same order, place the entire expression within quotes (e.g. "GEORGE WASHINGTON").

Truncation: To search for words with a variety of endings, place an asterisk at the end of the term. (e.g. FLOOD* will retrieve: FLOOD, FLOODS, FLOODING, FLOODED)

Lead words: We do not search through the complete text of each and every article. If you check the "include lead words" checkbox then both the article title and lead paragraph (or article abstract) are searched. We have lead words for many, but not all articles. Leaving this box unchecked will result in title searching only.

What sources does DailyBrief contain?

Sources: DailyBrief.com has dynamic access to thousands of sources. To see if your favorite source is included, or to find an individual source, select "Source names" from our homepage search box, enter a source, and click the "Search" button.

Please note that some articles you see in DailyBrief.com may be coming from websites that are not direct sources on DailyBrief.com and are not searchable here. You do not have to be logged in or registered to search source names.

How far back can I search the collections?
Article aging: We currently retain about the last 30 to 90 days depending on the popularity of the source.

How can I get email updates only from a single source?
Single source: This is not an option we support at this time.

How do I choose particular areas for my personalized collection?

Personalize: To personalize your collections, check off categories (below the gray collection buttons on our home page) that interest you. You can expand any of these categories to see sample articles by clicking the "See current headlines" links.

Save your checked selections by clicking the "Update My Selections" button at the bottom of the page for each collection that interests you. The first time you do this you'll be asked to register.

Not only will articles in your personalized collection (below the green collection buttons) be visible from our home page for quick reading, but it can also be emailed to you on a daily basis; see sample email.

Why am I not getting my account activation email (or email deliveries)?

Email not arriving: You may have entered your email address incorrectly during registration. If you think that this could be the case then please register with us again. If you are informed that an account already exists with this email address then something else is interfering.

EMAIL FILTERING: Some corporate email systems are setup to reduce spam (unwanted emails) by eliminating incoming emails with suspect words (e.g. "Sign up today", "Yours for FREE!", etc.), messages from "known" spam mail servers, messages with hotlinks, and filtering based on other business rules. We have attempted to make the activation email as direct as possible with only a few lines and an activation/deactivation hotlink. If your employer decides to keep these emails from you then please ask your mail system coordinator to allow messages coming from "DailyBrief@netbridgetech.com". You may also want to consider setting up your DailyBrief account using another email provider.

BULK MAIL FOLDERS: Some mail systems such as Yahoo and Earthlink may place your activation and/or daily emails into your BULK email folders. You should be able to read them there or redirect emails from DailyBrief@netbridgetech.com to your standard IN BOX; read how for Yahoo users.

How can I suspend my emails while I am away on vacation?
Suspend deliveries: Once logged in, you can click the MyAccount tab and select the "SUSPEND daily deliveries" radio button.

Note: Searches under the MySearches tab can have a separate delivery schedule.

How can I login after losing my password?
Lost password: Simply enter your email address on the login form (make sure you are entering the email address you registered with), click the "Click here for an emailed copy" link, and your registered password will be emailed to you.

How can I change where my emails are sent?
Changing email address: Once logged in, click on the MyAccount tab and change your registered email address on that page.

Why are some articles duplicated?
Article duplication: We try to prevent duplicate articles from appearing in our collections, but from time to time, the actual URL (the source location), or a title word may be slightly different causing us to list it multiple times.

Why do some articles have a New image with their titles?
New image: We use this image to indicate that this article is new since the last time you visited our website. These images will only appear if you are registered, and logged in.

How does DailyBrief timestamp an article?
Timestamp: We search thousands of sources at different frequencies, multiple times each day. We timestamp these articles as we receive them. To know for sure when an article was published you'll have view the full article.

Broken link?: We do not store complete articles on our website. We store the titles, article lead words, and links to those articles.

Once you click the "Read This Article" button you will be redirected to the website containing the complete article. This article and/or all popup ads, expired article warnings, down server messages, etc. are now coming from that website not DailyBrief.com.

By default, the articles are pulled up in a popup browser window to better handle those external sites that are dead or putting out lots of ads. If you're not seeing this popup window then it's possible you have either a popup blocker running (e.g. an ad blocker), or that your popup window is ending up behind your DailyBrief window. Try unchecking the box that reads "Open in a new browser window" directly below the "Read This Article" button to read articles in the same browser window that DailyBrief uses. Once this is changed you won't have to ever change that setting again on the computer you're using (it's remembered).

Websites containing these articles will typically remove access to them after some period of time. This time frame can be anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks or months, but can change at any time. DailyBrief may also retire links after 30 to 90 days depending on the popularity of the source.

More commonly, some websites may necessitate that you first check off "Open in a new browser window" before the article will be displayed. This too is outside of the control of DailyBrief.com, so try reading in a new browser window if you haven't already.

On rare occasions, some websites may exchange one article for another using the same article link as DailyBrief.com was previously given. In this case it may not be possible to locate the complete text of your intended article without searching the story archives on that website.

Why would an article contain different information than was shown to me in the original hotlink?
Wrong article: We do not store complete articles on our website. We store the titles, article lead words, and links to those articles. On occasion the producer of the article may replace one article with another while not changing the link to it.

Can I see a sample of the daily email?
Sample daily email: Click here to see a sample update email.

Does DailyBrief.com require cookies?

Session cookies: DailyBrief.com requires browser session cookies so that we can manage your personalized collections while you navigate our site. These cookies are not permanently saved on your computer.

Permanent cookies: DailyBrief.com does not require browser permanent cookies. If browser permanent cookies are turned off or rejected, or you unchecked the "Remember me (automatic login)" checkbox under the MyAccount tab then you will have to sign in on each visit to our site.

Sites that we may link you will have different policies regarding their use of cookies. Neither session nor permanent cookies enable third parties (sources that we may link you to) to access any of your DailyBrief.com customer information.

How do I email article links to friends?

Emailing friends: Once you click on an article title you will see a preview of that article. From that preview page you can refer this article to a friend along with a short message by clicking on the "emailemail link to a friend" link.

Your friend will receive the article link with your email address in the "replyto:" along with your name in the "subject:" and message body so that they can easily reply directly to you.

If you check the box "Blind copy all (uses BCC)" we will send each of your friends the story link without other recipient email addresses included.

If you check the box "Send me a copy too (uses BCC)" we will send you your copy "blind" (meaning that your friend will not see that you have also sent yourself a copy.)

Email addresses that you provide will be used to email article links on your behalf and ** will not ** be used for marketing purposes.

Why would I want to save anything to the MySearches tab?

Saved searches: By saving your searches to the MySearches tab, you can run them more easily the next time you return to the site. Save them by clicking on the "Add to MySearchesAdd to MySearches" link presented after any search.

Your saved searches can also be set to run automatically. By enabling notification below the MySearches tab, you will receive a notice when new articles matching your searches are found. This setting will override "Email Delivery Days - SUSPENDED" option below the MyAccount tab.

By default, these automated searches will search the article titles, and run for 3 months. You can choose to modify each search profile to allow searching for up to 12 months, and/or to include lead word searching.

Why would I want to save anything to the MyArchive tab?

Archived articles: By saving article links to the MyArchive tab, you can easily review stories you read the next time you return to the site.

Add stories to your archive by clicking on the "AddToMyArchiveAdd to MyArchive" link on the article display page.

You can save up to 20 article links under the MyArchive tab.

Why would I want to submit anything for the Community Top Picks tab?

Top Picks: We encourage you to include articles here that you feel may be of interest to other readers of DailyBrief.com. This feature allows you to highlight important articles from among the thousands of articles that appear daily on this site. Once an article is placed on the Top Picks list, other readers will be able to easily find and comment on your submission.

Submit stories by clicking on the "AddToTopPicksAdd to Community Top Picks" link on the article display page. Along with your submission, you'll be given the option of including your name and/or email address, establishing an expiration period (3, 7 or 10 days), and including a short message for others to read. You can also select to be notified when someone adds a comment to your submission.

Early Expiration: As submitter of an article link, you can return to the site and remove it from the Top Picks listing. Simply find the article under the Top Picks tab and click on the "Expire Now!" link; this link will appear along side any story that you have submitted. (Note: Articles that have a comment thread cannot be expired early.)
